Former U.S. Sen. David Durenberger of Minnesota dies at 88

Former Minnesota Sen. David Durenberger and his then-fiancée Susan Foote leave federal court in Washington on Aug. 22, 1995. Durenberger, a Republican who espoused a progressive brand of politics and criticized the GOP after his political career, died Tuesday at age 88.

The Minnesota Republican served three terms and championed health care reform and protecting rights for disabled people, including the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act.
