White House gives new details on Trump’s health following exam

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters Monday that the results from Donald Trump’s recent MRI were “perfectly normal” amid questions from Democrats about the president’s health.

“Everything evaluated is functioning within normal limits with no acute or chronic concerns,” Leavitt, reading a summary provided to her from the physician to the president, said at a White House press conference. “In summary, this level of detailed assessment is standard for an executive physical at President Trump's age and confirms that he remains in excellent overall health.”

Trump, 79, underwent the evaluation of his cardiovascular and abdominal systems in October. The president also said he “aced” a cognitive test but did not clarify whether that was part of the October assessment.

The White House released the results of Trump’s October MRI after the president on Sunday was unable to tell reporters aboard Air Force One what part of his body was scanned.

“It was just an MRI,” Trump said. “What part of the body? It wasn’t the brain because I took a cognitive test and I aced it.”

Trump had faced pressure to release his test results after Democrats such as Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz raised questions about his mental acuity and overall physical health. Trump also faced scrutiny this summer over swollen ankles and bruising on the back of his right hand.

Leavitt on Monday said the October tests were administered to identify any issues, confirm his overall health and “ensure the president maintains long-term vitality and function.”

Leavitt, reading from the physician's summary, said Trump’s cardiovascular system is in “excellent health,” showing smooth vessel walls and no signs of abnormalities. Meanwhile, imaging of Trump’s major organs “appear very healthy and well perfused.”

“I think that's quite a bit of detail in the effort of transparency,” Leavitt said. “The president promised it last night and we have it delivered today.”
