The U.S. Capitol Police said officers arrested a man with a firearm at the north barricade of the U.S. Capitol on Monday.
“Firearms are prohibited on Capitol Grounds. ... Our investigators are working to learn more about the suspect and why he drove to the U.S. Capitol,” USCP said in a statement.
USCP has not confirmed the type of firearm, the man’s motivation or whether he faces charges. The weapon was not said to have discharged, and USCP did not report any injuries.
Capitol Police closed down the north barricade while officials investigated, but they have since given the all-clear, reopened the area and ended any associated road closures, according to USCP.
Since the start of President Donald Trump’s second term, Capitol Police have arrested several individuals in the Capitol region on the charge of carrying a pistol without a license, most recently in late May.
