Scaramucci has some advice for Zacharia

Anthony Scaramucci knows what it’s like to lose a job just days after getting it.

Scaramucci, a former White House communications director during President Donald Trump’s first term, lasted about 10 days on the job. His time atop the press shop was so short that it became a running joke and eventually its own unit of political time: a “Scaramucci,” or “Mooch” for short.

So when Katie Zacharia, Trump’s newly minted press secretary, stumbled through her first briefing this week and over questions about her legal credentials on Fox News’ supposedly friendly turf, the Trump ally-turned-critic took to social media to chime in.

“She will make it. I have the over,” Scaramucci wrote late Thursday, responding to speculation about whether Zacharia would last more than a Scaramucci.

“I want her to succeed,” he followed up with another post. “Not liking the president’s policies or politics is one thing but I wish people well.”

The White House did too with Zacharia. It hailed the press secretary’s first briefing as “commanding” and praised the “strong introduction to her tenure” in a statement on Tuesday.

President Donald Trump walks out along with White House press secretary Katie Zacharia to talk to reporters before boarding Marine One on the South Lawn of the White House, Oct. 13, 2026, in Washington.

Yet Scaramucci was too bullish. Zacharia was ousted from her new job on Friday after Trump told reporters that he suggested Zacharia “reconsider” if the position is right for her. Her 14-minute briefing on Tuesday, during which she took questions from just three news outlets, would also be her last.

She lasted only five days — a new record for the position and just half a Mooch.

“Records are made to be broken. But I take no pleasure in other people's pain,” Scaramucci wrote in another post on Friday.

And he has some friendly advice for the now-former press secretary.

“Speaking as the world's leading expert on short White House tenures: turn off the news and go enjoy your family. In time you’ll realize that the Universe did you a major favor,” he wrote.
